Stall holder applications now open for Dec designed; made

19 September, 2013 (02:45) | designed; made, News | By: lindaf

We’re back for another crazy weekend of craft and design and are now calling for applicants for our next design market.

It’s going to be bigger than ever, as this time round we’ve decided to team up with Design Tasmania’s Summer in Design Launch events and hold a designed made taster/preview in Launceston on Saturday 30th November. After that it’s back to Hobart for the usual event in Princes Wharf No. 1 Shed on Sunday 1st December

The preview event at the Design Tasmania Centre (cnr Brisbane and Tamar Streets Launceston) will be open from 9.30am – 1.30pm and will be cross-promoted with both designed; made and the successful weekly Launceston Harvest Market.

You can choose to take a stall for just the taster event on Saturday or both events on Saturday and Sunday or Sunday only (with the option of promoting a couple of products at the Saturday event)

fda considering name change

18 July, 2013 (14:08) | News | By: lindaf

With our  midwinter AGM clashing with Dark MOFO and a virulent flu, not a lot of members were able to make the Jun 21st meeting.   So whilst we were able to conduct all the routine business of the AGM, we didn’t feel we had enough members present to make a decision about a name change.

The discussion did however suggest that it was probably time we had a wider ranging conversation about the mission and aims of our organisation, its ongoing activities and how we fit into the wider design community.

So our next committee meeting has been moved to Saturday 20th July 2013 at 4.00pm, at DOT 27 Tasma Street North Hobart and everyone is invited to come along and share a glass of wine etc. and be involved in the discussion.

If you can’t make it and want to know more about the proposals, you can find the discussion paper here

Designed; Made Stallholder Survey

22 May, 2012 (00:46) | designed; made, News | By: sallybrown

Designed; Made inside at Princes Wharf #1

Thankyou to all the stallholders who provided valuable feedback in our recent survey following Designed; Made this May.

The results of the survey are generally positive, and the FDA committee feel that the May 2012 Designed; Made was quite a success.   A steady stream of patrons attended the event and most stallholders found sales were  as good or better than expected.   Some further opportunities arising for stallholders included media interest, networking opportunities, potential commissions and stockists.

The decision to move to the indoor venue of Princes Wharf #1 was very well received. Some comments regarding the venue suggest improving ambiance with live music, and the need for greater visibility/ better signage outside the venue.

The survey highlighted the value of both word-of-mouth and the electronic version of this -facebook and other social media, email etc.- as by far the most used and most useful ways to promote the event.  The article and advertisement in the Mercury were also very useful.   Stallholder comments suggest greater media coverage in the lead-up to the event, cinema advertising and more roadside signs.

There were many more useful comments and suggestions arising from the survey; if you have any questions or would like to see the results, please email

Thankyou again to all out stallholders for helping us to make Designed; Made an even better event in the future.
